Fire Protection Systems
Since fire is one of the most dangerous threats to the safe operation of an aircraft, manufacturers and operators install a variety of overheat, fire detection, smoke detection, and extinguishing devices. Although the majority of aircraft fire-protection systems are installed around the powerplant section, it is typically the responsibility of an airframe technician to maintain all fire-protection systems regardless of where they are installed. To maintain the highest level of reliability from these systems, a technician must be familiar with the basic operating principles, troubleshooting, and repair of the various types of fire protection devices used on modern aircraft.
